On November 24th, San Francisco 49ers starting strong safety Antoine Bethea and Second Harvest Food Bank hosted a turkey drive in San Jose to help raise turkeys to benefit local families in need this holiday season. The drive took place at the Second Harvest Food Bank distribution center where the local community gathered to donate for a great cause and an opportunity to take photos and meet Bethea.

“Having Antoine at Second Harvest Food Bank helping us raise food and funds to feed our hungry neighbors was an incredible gift,” said Kathy Jackson, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. “Antoine not only has star power on the field, he is also an anti-hunger champion who cares about his community. It’s critical that we raise awareness about the local need this time of year, and Antoine helped us do that. His appearance brought in hundreds of dollars and turkeys in a short amount of time, not to mention all the donations that came in because donors saw Antoine on TV and were inspired to give.”

Second Harvest Food Bank set it’s annual turkey goal at 13,000 this year,  and according to their website, their current tally now stands at over 10,250 heading into the month of December.

Antoine is such an honorable individual and has been welcomed to the 49er family with open arms. His commitment to his community is heartwarming and the support that was received at the Turkey Drive was overwhelming. We can all make a difference, and it’s so important not just during the holidays, but all year long to give back.”
