Receiving his third Pro Bowl bid and the Bill Walsh Award in the 2014-2015 season, the accolades did not stop for 49ers safety Antoine Bethea. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) held their “MEAC weekend” beginning on Fri, March 14 to honor the MEAC 2015 Hall of Fame class, which included Howard University alumnus and BG Sports client Antoine Bethea.

According to the MEAC website, candidates must meet the following criteria to be inducted:

1) Must have achieved All-American status in their respective sport; (and/or), 2) All-Conference status (1st, 2nd, 3rd team or honorable mention) in the sport; (and/or), 3) Must have been an annual leader in a significant statistical category in their sport (e.g. free throws, kills, sacks, shutouts, strikeouts, etc.; (and/or), 4) Must be the all time institutional leader in a significant statistical category; (and), 5) Must have ended playing career for at least five years; 6) Have to be away from the sport and must have completed their eligibility; 7) Must be of high moral character; 8) Must be making significant contributions to society.

At Howard, Bethea was a three-year starter and played in 37 career games. Bethea finished his career with 309 recorded tackles (187 solos) with three sacks for minus-26 yards and twelve stops for losses of 63 yards. He caused seven fumbles and recovered two others, returning one 26 yards for a score. He also gained 40 yards on seven interceptions, batted away eighteen passes and returned a blocked punt 26 yards for a touchdown. (CBS Sports)

Bethea was also a three-time All-MEAC selection, three-time Black College All-American and two-time All-American.

Since entering the NFL in 2006, Bethea has recorded 836 tackles which leads all active defensive backs and was also awarded the 2012 Ed Block Courage Award. Off the field, Bethea has been heavily involved in the  community through his foundation, The Safe Coverage Foundation. Through his foundation, Bethea looks to provide children opportunities by giving them the necessary tools and resources to stay in school and pursue their dreams of higher education.
